For our first location we decided to use a cold, dark and hostile room. This would be where the murderer would plan the murder. At this piont the music would be slow. We would also have to make the lighting darker in order to give it more atmosphere. For example:

Unfortunately we were rushed for time and couldnt find are ideal location.We did find a location to shot the planning of the murder however we had to put effects on in order to get the darkness we wanted.

The main location we wanted to use was woods. We also wanted them to be dark,cold and as scary as posible in order to creat tension. For example:

Likely we were able to find an ideal location for the actual murder. Which was in the a forest with good lighting and good surroundings.

Props and costumes

We decided to include photos, paper and a newspaper to set the scene of where Chisanga is planning the murder at his desk. We planned to have notes on the paper e.g times and home adresses, to make it look effective. We decided not to include any costumes as we wanted it to look as realistic and modern as possible, although chisanga wears a black hooded coat that doesnt show his face because we thought it would look quite creepy and give a negative impression of him to the audience.

Editing

Editing plays a big importance to how the opening sequence is put together, as the images, sound and shot angles all need to relate to the theme of the rest of the film. Looking at the "Hannibal" opening sequence, the credits are in red, and appear slowly on the black background, creating a darker impression of the film to the spectator. Also there is very faint music in the background which makes it more eery, you can also hear voices which are introduced into the opening frame by another frame emerging - the scene of the voices. Although this isn't a very suspence -filled opening, the way it has been edited adds mystery as it's not overly detailed but has a different and more interesting approach.

Music in a thriller

Music is very important in a triller as it has a big effect on the audience for example if it is fast with a heavy beat the audience's heart will beat fast and they will be feeling excited and tense. Whereas on the other hand if the music is calm and relaxed so then will the auidence be calm and relaxed. So because music plays a big part in films we will have to choose very carefully what our music will be for our thriller project. It will probably be something very tense or with a fast beat if we are looking to have a thriller's impact.

Black Christmas Opening

The most noticeable thing about the opening sequence of this film is that during the scrolling of the title credits there is a still shot of a house (the credits scroll for about a minute). This gives the audience an idea that the key location in the film will be the house.The features of the house are barely visible in the dark lighting. After the title's are done, there is a Point of view shot moving towards the entrance of the house( the shot is shakey ), it feels like the camera is handheld.There is then another pov shot of someone climbing through a window. This creates more tension and thrill for the audience.

The lighting is very dark.

The music is quite mellow and is synchronised with the scrolling of the title credits, this builds up tension as the audience is Edgar to see if anything is going to happen.

Camera work in The Bourne Identity

The bourne films are famous for there camera work and the scene I have selected shows this very well. They do a technique in where they try to make the viewer feel like they are there. They do this by moving the camera as if it is in your eyes. This makes it very shaky and quick. They also change the shot a lot in order to make the scene faster and to raise the tempo. This famous 'bourne' technique is something that we hope to use in are thriller project.

Mise-en-scene Analysis

Mise-en-scene is an expression used in the theatre and film worlds to describe the design aspects of a production, such as . Knowing that mise-en-scene plays an important part in all films, I have decided analysis The Ring directed by Gore Verbinski, to gather a few ideas for our project.

The first images we see are of a woman appearing from stairs. The camera filming the images appears to be on the floor at a low angle so as she appears you can only really see her feet. This use of camera work builds up suspense as she approaches. There are several close ups in the scene which further builds tension. The woman spots the water build up coming from under the door. She opens the door, and this is where a close up is used to only show the woman's hand touching the door handle. As the door opens, there is a close up of the woman's face looking shocked, which further builds suspense.
The general graphics are very dark images, blood, and flickering scenes.
